SILVER AND BLACK JET STONE

 

The Azabache is a fossil mineral of vegetable origin formed in the Jurassic. Black, lightweight, warm, compact and soft to the touch. Very appreciated, it has been used as ornamental stone since ancient times by Egyptians, Phoenicians, Etruscans or Romans. Working handicraft with files, gouges and lathe, it is extracted from the next deposits of Asturias which is considered the best jet, for its intense and bright black color achieved by manually polishing it.

The jewelery in jet is the traditional trade most characteristic of Compostela. Considered a Jacobean emblem by the pilgrims who traveled throughout the centuries to Compostela, it represents the talisman of the Camino de Santiago, protector of the pilgrim. At the moment it continues having much root in Galicia, land of spirits and meigas, are attributed to the jet healing properties and against the “Evil of Eye”.
