The origin of the word Ultreia or Ultreya (ultra – beyond and eia – movement) is in the Calixtino Codex, the first historical reference of the Camino de Santiago. Pilgrims use it to encourage themselves by saying “Let’s go there.” In the Codex appears a song of Ultreya used as a hymn of the pilgrims and in this chorus reads “Ultreia et suseia” indicating “Let’s go there” and “Let’s go further up”.

The first piece of this collection was the ring or alliance of the Camino de Santiago made in Compostela with sterling silver. It contains all the typical symbols of the Camino: the shell, the cross of Santiago, the typical rain of Galicia, the boots of the pilgrim, the sweat of effort, the symbol of the emblazoned houses, … and it is also engraved inside with Camino de Santiago in different languages.
