The jet is a rare and rare type of coal. A semi-precious stone of black color, soft and light, which was used, already in Greek and Roman times, for its healing and magical qualities. An example of this is its use as an amulet, associated with its effectiveness in preventing the evil eye.

We can find it in different parts of Europe: England, Germany (especially in the duchy of Wintterberg) or in the Iberian Peninsula, where the Asturian jet stands out for its high quality.

In goldsmithing, it has been used for centuries to make necklaces, rosaries, earrings, pendants, etc. We can see it, usually, set with a silver filigree or combined with coral and even gold. But also, important sculptors made special pieces with this material.

Over time, the jet acquired great importance as a souvenir and amulet linked to the Camino de Santiago and Compostela, founding, in the fourteenth century, the guild of the jetliners. Workshops that continue their activity today, keeping the tradition. Tradition that we try to preserve and maintain working with these master craftsmen.
